What Our 1% for the Planet Certification Means for Us

Booth & Partners 1% for the Planet certification

Every business leaves a footprint. The question is—what kind?

We like to think of Booth as part of a larger ecosystem, one where growth isn’t just about numbers but about roots—deep, intentional, and connected to something greater than ourselves.

That’s why we’re proud to share that we’ve been recertified by 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses committed to giving back 1% of their annual revenue to environmental causes. It’s a small percentage, but a big commitment.

As Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet, puts it: “The climate crisis is a human crisis, and every action counts. When businesses commit to environmental giving, they’re not just supporting vital work; they’re showing leadership and inspiring others to join in.”

And that’s exactly what we hope to do. Not just donate, but lead. Not just act, but act with meaning.

Why 1% for the Planet?

The genius of 1% for the Planet lies in its simplicity. Member companies, like us, commit to giving at least 1% of their topline revenue to environmental organizations. Why topline revenue, not profits? Because it shows our direct business activity and resources we use to operate. Profits can go up and down, but basing our giving on sales means we contribute consistently, no matter how the economy is doing.

This approach connects directly to the idea from Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, who said, “Returning 1% is not philanthropy but a cost of doing business and an absolute necessity for us living on this planet.”

We chose this path because we genuinely believe business can and should be a force for good. Our involvement with 1% for the Planet fits perfectly with our mission: putting people first, protecting the planet, and creating prosperity that lasts, knowing that a healthy environment is key for people to do their best work. This commitment isn’t just something we say. It’s something we back with consistent action and transparency.

Over the past years, our contributions have helped support efforts that protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and uplift communities affected by climate change. And we’re just getting started.

Our Commitment

Being part of 1% for the Planet is just one part of a larger commitment. It is embedded in how we do business, support our people, and care for the world around us.

At Booth, sustainability is not a separate initiative. It is part of our everyday actions. From reforestation and coastal cleanups to employee volunteerism and community engagement, we choose to show up where it matters most. It is reflected in how we empower our team to get involved, how we collaborate with partners who share our values, and how we strive to create long-term value for both people and the planet.

Our Impact

We know that no one can solve the climate crisis alone. But we also know that real progress begins with consistent, intentional action, and that when individuals and businesses come together around shared values, change can scale.

Through our 1% for the Planet commitment, we’ve supported a range of initiatives that focus on both environmental restoration and community engagement. From coastal cleanups with the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) to reforestation and cultural immersion programs with MAD Travel, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside local organizations doing important, hands-on work for the planet.

We’ve also backed the missions of ARK Solves, which helps farmers and fisherfolk grow more food, increase their income, and support their families sustainably; Hope for the Island, which supports coastal community rebuilding through education and eco-driven programs; and WWF-Philippines, in their efforts to promote marine conservation and sustainable resource use. These efforts not only contribute to environmental protection but also build a deeper sense of awareness and involvement among our team and partners.

And we’re not doing it alone. As a member of 1% for the Planet’s global network, now made up of nearly 5,000 business members and 7,200 environmental partners, we’re part of a growing movement that’s already certified more than $728 million in donations, including $102 million in 2023 alone. It’s proof that small, smart actions, when done consistently and in community, can lead to meaningful impact.

Whether you’re:

  • A team member who brings our values to life daily and supports our initiatives.
  • Someone looking for a career where their work truly makes an impact for good, or
  • A client or partner who believes business success should go hand-in-hand with a healthier planet —

You’re part of this.

Your actions, your choices, and your support help shape the kind of impact we can make together. And for that, we’re grateful.

The Work Doesn’t Stop Here

Being recertified by 1% for the Planet doesn’t mean we’ve “made it.” It means we’ve made a promise to keep improving, to keep asking questions, and to keep showing up for the planet in ways big and small.

We’re proud of the work we’ve done so far, but we’re even more excited about what’s next. Because sustainability isn’t a campaign—it’s a commitment. At Booth, we’re in it for the long haul.
